Return to the World Cup

After over a year since their last outing on the World Cup, the Trinidad & Tobago 2-man team have returned to the BMW IBSF World Cup this week in Innsbruck. The 2-man team of pilot Axel Brown and De Aundre John took to the ice to compete against the very best in the world at a track touted to potentially host the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Trinidad and Tobago return to the bobsleigh world cup

De Aundre John became the youngest athlete ever from Trinidad & Tobago to compete in a bobsleigh World Cup at just 21 years old. Though the result didn’t accomplish the teams goals of a top-20, narrowly missing out in 23rd, there are positives to be taken and those goals hopefully realised in the new year in St. Moritz

2026 Winter Olympics

Though the 2026 Winter Olympic Games are set to be held in Milan Cortina, an ongoing dispute between the IOC and Italian Olympic Committee, as well as budget and environmental concerns has meant that a bobsleigh track has yet to be built for the competition.

The IOC has instructed the hosts to find a different venue for the competition, stating that building a new track is not in line with their legacy and sustainability principles. This would be the first time the competition has not been held in the home nations country as Italy currently does not have a bobsleigh track. St Moritz, and Innsbruck have been suggested as host cities for the event if Italy is not able to build their own in time for the Games.
