T&T Makes World Cup Debut

After making history in the 4-man bobsleigh last week, T&T have broken another record by becoming the first team from Trinidad & Tobago to race in the IBSF World Cup. Axel Brown and Andre Marcano, who haven’t raced together since the Olympics earlier this year, teamed up once again on the world stage.

World Cup Debut

IBSF World Cup

Most bobsleigh teams on the world stage are from Europe, however, travelling with sleds to North America is incredibly expensive. Only the best, and most funded teams in the World from outside of North America were able to attend this race, meaning that Axel and Andre were against the best of the best.

The nature of the World cup, and it being televised, also meant that conditions were different from anything Axel had experienced as a driver before at this track. A track he otherwise knows well. So, despite their best-efforts Axel and Andre finished 14th out of 14 sleds. However, they were able to break yet more records in the process as the highest Caribbean 2-man finish in a World Cup.

The team will now return home for Christmas, after which they will head to Europe to take on the World Championships in St. Moritz. Another first for this young team.
