World Championships top-20

Capping off what was already a history making history, T&T’s 2-man bobsleigh team of Axel Brown and Shakeel John came 20th in this seasons IBSF Bobsleigh World Championships. This year T&T have already won the Caribbean’s first ever 4-man bobsleigh medal, as well as making T&T’s World Cup Debut.

IBSF World Championships

The World Championships take place over two days, with two heats on each day. However, only the top 20 sleds get a 4th run. After the first day, Axel and Shak were in 26th place and a 4th run seemed like a forlorn hope. However, after one of the best drives of the entire competition in the 3rd heat, Axel was able to drive the pair into the top-20 overtaking the likes of Poland, Czech Republic, and Liechtenstein.

The duo recorded the 13th highest speed on both the 3rd and 4th heats showing huge potential for the team’s future. Top 20, with the 13th highest speed is a far cry from the 28th place at the Olympics early last year and is hopefully indicative of the trajectory the young Caribbean team is on.
