World Championships top-20

Capping off what was already a history making history, T&T’s 2-man bobsleigh team of Axel Brown and Shakeel John came 20^th in this seasons IBSF Bobsleigh World Championships. This year T&T have already won the Caribbean’s first ever 4-man bobsleigh medal, as well as making T&T’s World Cup Debut.

IBSF World Championships

The World Championships take place over two days, with two heats on each day. However, only the top 20 sleds get a 4^th run. After the first day, Axel and Shak were in 26^th place and a 4^th run seemed like a forlorn hope. However, after one of the best drives of the entire competition in the 3^rd heat, Axel was able to drive the pair into the top-20 overtaking the likes of Poland, Czech Republic, and Liechtenstein.

The duo recorded the 13^th highest speed on both the 3^rd and 4^th heats showing huge potential for the team’s future. Top 20, with the 13^th highest speed is a far cry from the 28^th place at the Olympics early last year and is hopefully indicative of the trajectory the young Caribbean team is on.
